چکیده

Radiative effects accompanying a fluxon—antifluxon collision on the background of a localized inhomogeneity (microshortor microresistance) or in a randomly inhomogeneous long Josephson junction arestudied. The total emitted energy andthe corresponding threshold value of the bias current density for radiative annihilation of a fluxon—antifluxon pair into a breather are found. Theobtainedresults areapplied to aqualitative description of neutral fluxon—antifluxon “rarefied gas” in ajunction with periodic or random inhomogeneities. In particular, we obtain an estimate for the maximum possible equilibrium density of the “gas” atgiven density ofbias current. Some kinetic characteristics ofthe “gas” in anon-equilibrium state, e.g. mean lifetimeand free path length of a fluxon in the case when thedensity exceeds the equilibrium value, areestimated too.

Asymmetric long josephson junction acting as a ratchet for a quantum field.

We study the escape rate of flux quanta in a long Josephson junction having an asymmetric spatial inhomogeneous critical current density. Such a junction can behave as a ratchet when driven by an ac current in the presence of a magnetic field. This rectification gives rise to a dc voltage V(dc) across the junction. The usual approach of particlelike tunneling cannot describe this rectification,...

Resonant steps and spatiotemporal dynamics in the damped dc-driven Frenkel-Kontorova chain

Kink dynamics of the damped Frenkel-Kontorova (discrete sine-Gordon) chain driven by a constant external force are investigated. Resonant steplike transitions of the average velocity occur due to the competitions between the moving kinks and their radiated phasonlike modes. A mean-field consideration is introduced to give a precise prediction of the resonant steps. Slip-stick motion and spatiot...

Shapiro steps in Josephson Junctions

We use Ginzburg-Landau theory to describe the phase transition to the superconducting state and the current through a superconductor. Applying quantum mechanics to the Josephson junction following Feynmann’s method the Josephson relations for AC and DC current through the junctions is obtained. The resistively shunted Josephson junction and the resistively and capacitively shunted Josephson jun...

Frequency Windows of Absolute Negative Conductance in Josephson Junctions

We report on anomalous conductance in a resistively and capacitively shunted Josephson junction which is simultaneously driven by ac and dc currents. The dependence of the voltage across the junction on the frequency of the ac current shows windows of absolute negative conductance regimes, i.e. for a positive (negative) dc current, the voltage is negative (positive).

Asymptotic states in long Josephson junctions in an external magnetic field.

Asymptotic states in long Josephson junctions are investigated in an external magnetic field. We show that a choice one of the solution of the stationary Ferrell-Prange equation can carry be out with use of an asymptotic solution of the sine-Gordon equation and that an evolution to that stable solution occurs by passing through metastable states, which is determined with a form of quickly dampe...
